2022 Summer Activities for Kids in and around Salt Lake City

Still reeling from the aftershocks of recent hurricanes, families are looking for ways to spend quality time together. Thankfully, there are many Summer events taking place in Salt Lake City and its surrounding areas, and Kid City Guide has the ultimate guide to make it super easy to find all these family-friendly events, summer camps, and fun places for the entire family to enjoy the 2022 summer season in Utah!
After a couple of rough years for everyone, 2022 starts feeling like the world is going back to normal, so make sure you make the most out of this special season with your loved ones!


Thanksgiving Point is a family favorite around Utah and, of course, is offering unique summer camps in which children will enjoy fun learning experiences, explore nature, make new friends, and even meet insects and animals! Camps will be divided by age groups.

Enjoy the outdoors as you walk through 42 acres of tree-lined pathways where you will have the chance to see over 800 animals!

Hogle Zoo is the favorite attraction for families in Utah, and will be your family’s new favorite too!

Each week, kids of all ages will join a Swaner naturalist at the EcoCenter and learn about a different nature topic!

Swaner Shorts program includes a short presentation about the topic of the week and hands-on opportunities to learn about it.

Summer is not complete without a water park! At Lagoon A Beach you will find six acres of water slides, twisting hydro tubs, crystal waterfalls, bubbling fountains, and more!

The entire family will love cooling off at Lagoon A Beach!

During these summer camps, children will explore the natural world from new perspectives, put the scientific method into action, engage in authentic experiences with Museum staff and collections, make new friends, and have a blast!

This is a great plan to enjoy during the summer months!

Families can join one of Swaner’s Naturalists for a nature walk on the Preserve and explore animal species, wetland science, the history of the Swaner Preserve, and more!

Nights Under Lights are popular Summer events hosted by the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium and are returning for 2022!

Families will get to watch a spectacular light show on the Ecosystem Exploration Craft & Observatory (EECO) structure set to the top music hits.

Nature-loving kids and families can enjoy a free Sunday nature-themed craft throughout the summer at the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter every Sunday!

Besides the breathtaking and indescribable views that you will get to admire at Zion National Park, there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy including camping, horseback riding, hiking, bicycling, river trips, and so much more to enjoy during the summer months!

Summer camps at the aquarium are divided by age groups and themes!

All in-person camps include access to camp photos, daily snacks while at camp, cool Aquarium swag, and special animal experiences. Lunch is included for full-day campers.

Breakfast with the Birds 2022 will again be a lively morning at Tracy Aviary: breakfast buffet, hands-on nature activities for the kids, up-close bird encounters, and live music.

This summer, kids of all skill levels ages 6-15 can enjoy a week filled with Golf! Campers will learn and sharpen their skills with a strong emphasis on the fundamentals of iron play, driving, chipping, putting, rules & etiquette.

The Lindon Aquatics Center’s star is the sunken pirate ship in which kids can play for hours while they cool off this summer!

Another favorite is the FlowRider surf ride, where you can land surf. The center offers many other attractions that both kids and adults will love.

Kids will love this unique outdoor experience!

At U-Dig Fossils, you can spend the day with your family digging for 550-million-year-old fossils and take home whatever you find!

During this four-day workshop, kids ages 7 to 11 will make and melt a snowman in June, play with magnets, discover new things about light and sound, and much more!

When it comes to summer fun, water parks always guarantee you and the entire family a great time!

At Cherry Hill, you will enjoy water slides, a foam-padded river run, a lazy river, a children’s water playground, and two pools. The family can also play some mini-golf, enjoy a jungle maze and climbing rock, relax at the pie restaurant, and more!

These fun summer camps for kids ages 7-10 are perfect for all nature nerds, tech wizards, and art aficionados!

Discovery Gateway offers these full-day camps which are chock full of games, projects, and STEAM-centered activities to keep kids engaged, enthralled, and excited all summer long!

During Conservation Heros Day, you’ll get to meet some real-life conservation heroes working at Utah’s Hogle Zoo: veterinary staff, keepers, conservationists, educators, grounds crew, and safety specialists.

These camps teach kids how to time travel through their imaginations while learning science.

Geared for kids aged 3-6 (junior camps) and 7-11 (elementary camps). Kids will enjoy projects like fossil casting, tours of the park with a paleontologist, and experiments inspired by recent scientific literature. Each monthly session throughout the summer will feature different themes!

The Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum is offering shortened, 3-hour junior camps for children ages 4-6!

During the week, kids will explore themes like wilderness, art, and culture through games, crafts, and stories.

This four-day workshop for children aged 7 to 11 (currently in grades 1 through 5) it’s taught by Treehouse Troupe Director, Wes Whitby.

The workshop lets young actors “Step on Stage” at Treehouse by learning about writing, costuming, staging, and acting in a play.

This family-friendly night out at the Zoo will teach families about the critically endangered Siamese Crocodile couple, Bill and Hillary.

Kids ages 7 to 11 will have a blast during this 4-day workshop!

It’s taught by Treehouse “Art Guardians” and lets young artists paint, draw and sculpt their own masterpieces using a variety of mediums, all based on the art of recognized artists.

The Autism Adventure Camp is a fun adventure for youth with autism, ages 11-18 (or entering grades 6th-12th in the fall of 2022).

The camp runs Tuesday – Friday from 9 am-3 pm each day. Children will grow and connect with other children. Participants must be verbal and must be able to use the restroom independently.
