Just a quick drive from Denver is the charming town of Dillon – home to the magnificent Ice Castles. Ice Castles is a world of imagination with LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones perfect for family pictures, tunnels, slides and fountains all made entirely of ice.
Your family will love exploring the many rooms and passageways of ice. Don’t forget to look up! The views above will take your breath away as you catch a glimpse of the mountain sky between towers of ice.
Founded in 2011, Ice Castles is all about creating happy memories and bringing a smile to each person who walks into this winter wonderland.
The concept was born simply enough by a father who created an ice cave in his front yard for his six children in Utah. The project became known around the neighborhood and eventually the town and is now a family destination in six North American cities. Each Ice Castle is built by hand over a two month time period, weighs in at over 25 million pounds and spans roughly one acre.
A few Ice Castle Tips for Parents: The “floor” of the Ice Castle ranges from packed to loose snow. Plan to wear snow boots and snow pants especially if you’re planning to take part in the fun ice slides or tunnels. Strollers are not allowed at Ice Castles. Babies and small toddlers would do best worn in a carrier.
Older toddlers can be pulled on a sled. Some areas can get crowded so you may find yourself navigating around large groups.
Outside food and beverages are not allowed so make sure you grab a snack before heading in. The LaRiva del Lago Shoppes are located just across the street and has a frozen yogurt shop and restaurant.
