The first weekend in December marks one of the most fun holiday events in all of Colorado! The Lighting of Breckenridge & Race of the Santas takes place on Saturday, December 7th and features a variety of events all day that the whole family can enjoy.
3:00 PM – SNOWMAN BUILDING COMPETITON
Do you want to build a snowman? The first event of the day is the snowman building contest which starts at 3PM and goes until 6PM. Here you and your family/friends can showcase your sculpting skills and create characters out of snow. The competition will be judged by Breck Create Staff. All ages welcome. Walk-ins also welcome, first-come, first-served.
3:45 PM – HOLIDAY DOG PARADE
4-legged friends that have made Santa’s nice list are welcomed to parade downtown Main Street at the Breckenridge Holiday Dog Parade! You can register your dog from 3-3:30 PM and all of the pups friends and family are welcome to join. After the parade, the dog viewing party takes place near the bottom of Washinton Ave. Here, participants in the dog parade can watch the Race of the Santas and Lighting of Breckenridge from a special, sectioned off area.
4:20 PM – Moose March
At the Moose March, kids aged 12 and younger can have a blast participating in the Reindeer Run! All kids must register online or in person at Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub the day of the race from 2-3:30PM and will receive a bib and antlers.
4:30 – Race of the Santas
One of the most beloved events in Breck, the Race of the Santas is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. Here, participants can dress in their best Santa outfit (or other holiday-related costume) and run, jog or walk from the start to the finish of the 6 block course. There are prizes for being a top finisher, but the majority of participants are just there to have fun. The course is .75 miles long and costs $15 to register which you can do online or at Napper Tandy’s between 2-3:30PM. This is for anyone aged 13 and up and is a .75 mile course.
5:00 PM – Lighting of Breckenridge
Santa makes an early visit to Breck every year for the lighting of the Town Tree. You and your family will not want to miss the special moment when Santa flips the switch and downtown Breck transforms into a holiday wonderland. Santa will be flipping the switch just outside of the Breckenridge Welcome Center at 203 S Main Street. Stick around afterward for cookies and cheer from the Breckenridge Tourism Office.
5:30 – 7:00 PM – Meet Santa
After he flips the switch, you can meet Santa in person at the Barney Ford Museum (111 E. Washington Ave). Here kids can tell Santa what they want for Christmas and get their photo taken with him at the beautifully decorated Barney Ford House.
