For kids of all ages, storytime is a chance to exercise their imagination and creativity. It teaches them about the wonders of literature, and will surely inspire them to want to pick up books themselves. Your local library likely hosts a storytime night, but so do many businesses in the Denver area. We’ve composed a list of some of our favorite locations for unique and fun storytimes in all of Denver that we know your kids will love!
One of our cities best public resources, the Denver Public Library offers various storytimes geared for different age groups every Monday-Saturday. They also offer bi-lingual storytimes in Spanish and Engligh! Check out their storytime schedule to see the full lineup of their fantastic and fun storytimes. You can also catch a story anytime, anywhere with their “Phone-a-Story” program, give them a call at 720-865-8500!
The Downtown Aquarium is one of the top educational & fun destinations in all of Denver! They offer a fun “Under the Sea” storytime that focuses on a different animal every week. This storytime is educational and interactive, depending on the week you may be able to feed, train, touch or get your picture taken with the animal! This storytime is free for members and only $5 for non-members!
Bookbar is a unique book store in Denver that offers a cafe and bar and hosts an array of events and storytimes every day of the week. They offer great happy hours for parents while kids listen to various themed stories. Magical Mondays offer ½ price cafe beverages from 10-11 and free storytime for kids at 10:30am. Happier Hour storytime takes place on Tuesdays & Thursdays with bar specials from 4-5 and storytime at 4:30. They also have other special events every month like Bilingual Storytime, Musical Storytime, and Sensory Storytime focused on easy-going stories for special needs children.
This charming bookstore in Denver offers a great selection of books, gifts and toys for kids and young adults. They also offer a variety of one of a kind storytimes you won’t find anywhere else! Their Drag Queen/King storytimes are perhaps their most popular and offers an hour of entertainment that focuses on individuality, inclusiveness, and kindness towards others. They also have storytimes focused on art, social justice, princesses and special storytime events with book authors!
If you haven’t checked out the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, it is simply one of the coolest places around to bring your kid for a fun and educational day! They also offer an awesome storytime that takes place daily at 10:00am and is included with general admission entry. Here kids will learn about what it’s like to be a bug with fun stories of life from a bug’s perspective. While you’re here you can take place in the other programs and activities offered by the Butterfly Pavilion daily for a full day of fun!
This Children’s Museum is easily one of the best that the United States has to offer! They offer multiple storytimes every day that are free with the costs of a general admission entrance fee. Their storytimes showcase a variety of tales and adventures that are sure to entertain and captivate your young one. They also have special French themed storytime to introduce your kids to the French language and culture on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month!
The Broomfield Storywalk is a super unique storytelling experience that gets kids and adults outdoors for a fun adventure! Children’s book pages are posted on signs around Bronco Park so you and your kids can read the story and do fun activities while walking around the scenic path. This is a great introduction to literature as a fun and interactive experience for young kids!
Located in Glendale, The Bookies is an awesome bookstore for kids and adults of all ages. Every Tuesday, kids and parents can meet at 10:30am for a special storytime that changes weekly. Kids get to enjoy fun and interactive picture books being read aloud that vary in theme and subject. Make sure to keep an eye on all of their fun themed events and special storytimes that regularly occur at The Bookies!
The Douglas County Library in Castle Pines offers great storytimes twice daily every week from Monday-Friday, but that’s not all they offer! On the first Friday of each month you can experience their “Make It & Take It” storytime. Kids of all ages can enjoy a storytime with crafts and make something all their own to take home with them. This library also offers a Yoga storytime where kids and adults alike can participate in Yoga and read related stories on the second and fourth Fridays of every month!
Timbuk Toys is an independent toy store company with locations in Lakewood, Highlands Ranch, and two locations here in Denver. Beyond having a huge variety of fun & educational toys for kids, they also offer a weekly story/playtime at all of their locations! This storytime is free and fun for young kids and adults alike.
